Peggy's Story
A few of you may have already heard of our brave and wonderful Peggy, or "Peg" as we sometimes call her.
Peggy was found badly injured in a field by a 15 year old boy who quickly got help from his dad. We can only speculate at her injuries, they were possibly due to a road traffic accident. The family acted quickly and called the RSPCA and an inspector came out and took her to the National RSPCA animal hospital to receive immediate treatment. While they waited for the inspector Peggy let them carry her to their car for shelter. This shows the kind of gentle soul Peggy is as she had to be in a lot of pain and she trusted them to help her.
Peggy was in quite a state with multiple injuries and she also had a broken leg, hence why the vet staff dubbed her "Peg". Sadly, the injuries to her left hind leg were so severe that she had to have her leg amputated. She has taken it so well and you would never know as she still manages to get up to mischief! Peggy has been in our care for the last couple of months while she has recovered, and we can now happily say that she is ready to find her forever home!!
We would like to say a massive THANK YOU to the kind family who helped Peggy from the beginning and have checked on Peggy’s progress throughout. We don't know what would have happened to her if they hadn't found her, so it is thanks to people like you that Peggy has been given a second chance.
Here is a little we have learned about Peggy in our time with her and the kind of home that would suit her best:
She is a 2 year old Dutch Shepherd and she is such a sweet and affectionate girl who has stolen the hearts of all the staff; she has got such a cheeky and playful nature which always makes you smile. Peggy loves her toys and she enjoys exploring.
Peggy has spent a few days in a foster home where she settled in straight away, she loved sunbathing in the garden and making herself at home!
Despite missing her hind left leg she still gets around confidently. Peggy loves all people and enjoys affection; she will happily lie with you while you give her fuss.
Peggy can be temperamental with other dogs therefore she is looking to be the only pet in the home but she could live with children aged 5+. We are only accepting applicants for Peggy who are within an hours drive from the centre.
If you think you could provide the perfect home for Peggy we would love to hear from you, please express your interest by emailing for an application form.
