Volunteering

As a self funding charity with very little funds, the Branch relies heavily on the contribution of volunteers, as well as its paid employees, to fulfil a variety of roles within the organisation. We need volunteers to help in our charity shops in Longridge and Chorley, to help with fundraising activities and to help in the Branch’s Animal Re-homing Centre.

Charity Shops

The charity shops are run by permanent staff with the assistance of volunteers and provide much needed monetary support to the entire branch.

Volunteers may be asked to:

  • Assist customers

  • Stock shelves

  • Arrange window displays

  • Maintain the shop areas to present an attractive environment to entice in customers.

Fundraising

All fundraising performed by the branch is primarily organised by a fundraising committee and all fund raising efforts carried out in the name of the centre should be co-ordinated through them. The committee relies on volunteers to help run branch organised events as well as participating in events set up by other animal related organisations. All assistance to make events as successful as possible is very welcome to help raise the maximum amount of funds that the branch needs.

Volunteers may be asked to:

  • Assist in the organisation of events

  • Man stalls and promote the branch during events

  • Carry out donation collecting in public areas e.g. supermarkets

Animal Re-homing Centre?

The animal centre employs several permanent staff to maintain the centre and care for the animals, and ultimately to rehabilitate and find the animals a forever home. There is a great deal of work involved and the centre relies on volunteers to assist the staff in this work.

Volunteers may be asked to:

  • Clean animal enclosures

  • Prepare animal feeds

  • Maintain the buildings and grounds

  • Socialise with the animals (primarily dogs and cats)

  • Assist in reception

Working with animals can be physically and emotionally demanding, and unfortunately, for this reason, our insurance policy prohibits us from accepting anyone under the age of 18 years as a volunteer at the animal centre.

We are always looking for bright and enthusiastic people, who are committed to helping animals in need, to join our branch as volunteers. If this sounds like you then please get in touch with the centre and ask for an application form. We look forward to working with you in caring for the area’s unwanted and neglected pets. We do try to get in touch with applicants as soon as possible but this can be delayed if there are a large number of applications so please be patient and we will contact you as soon as possible.

For more information about fostering please contact our Foster Co-ordinator Jess on 01772 792553 or email rspcapreston@hotmail.com
